I worked with Marie, a wonderful electrical engineer to figure out how to make this electronic clock work. I helped wire the LED's and attach them all to the bread board, was so cool & fun!

The clock body is made of acrylic and polycarbonate, held together with acrylic screws. [Love McMaster-Carr!] The minutes are represented by the red LED's and are shown in four groups of 15 vertically. The hours were etched onto acrylic half spheres, mounted vertically and represented with blue LED's.

These shades are in the works again, so more details on them coming very soon! I was inspired to make these by the view you see below and wondering about the stories and the lives occurring around me while living in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. The view is from my old apartment and I often was reminded of 'Rear Window' by Hitchcock.

These window shades provide entertainment for your neighbors when you draw the shades for privacy.

Concept for ideas call for what to do with the High Line [call previous to the competition in which Diller Scofido + Renfro's wonderful design was chosen]. There were so many stories in the news about animals [including bears] wandering into towns in New Jersey and upstate New York because of getting pushed out of their natural spaces, the need for wild spaces was highlighted. This idea includes migratory paths for animals even in NYC : ]

Gandhiwarmer 3: Atlanta, GA 01/28/2012 from Christophile Konstas on Vimeo.

Seems we're making our way down the east coast with gandhiwarmer each year. This year team gandhiwarmer visited Atlanta's Bronze Gandhi at the Martin Luther King Jr. center to honor Troy Davis who was executed in 2012. Amazingly, there was another tribute to Mr. Davis at the King Center on the same day. Groups of people walked by wearing cyan 'I am Troy Davis' t-shirts, almost eerily.

This was our first warming in warm weather, especially compared to our first year in NYC which was minus 15, our toes were so frozen! 2012's was a lovely and most intimate warming. I believe that sometimes people can be your angels and sometimes you can be their angels.

There was a woman leaving the Troy Davis event who was so touched by our installation, the image of tears rolling down her cheeks in the afternoon sun brings tears to my eyes everytime.

<img src="http://payload93.cargocollective.com/1/3/125421/4163643/DSC_0129_.jpg" width="575" height="382" width_o="575" height_o="382" src_o="http://payload93.cargocollective.com/1/3/125421/4163643/DSC_0129__o.jpg" data-mid="21893398" border="0" align="left"/>

A group of soldiers from around the world including Afghanistan and Pakistan were visiting Atlanta while in training for combat at a local military base. The young man we met from Afghanistan asked to take a gift scarf as a memento of the warming, then swiftly and beautifully tied it into a turban on his head.

<img src="http://payload93.cargocollective.com/1/3/125421/4163643/P1080107_.jpg" width="575" height="382" width_o="575" height_o="382" src_o="http://payload93.cargocollective.com/1/3/125421/4163643/P1080107__o.jpg" data-mid="21893382" border="0" align="left"/>

<img src="http://payload93.cargocollective.com/1/3/125421/4163643/DSC_0190_.jpg" width="575" height="382" width_o="575" height_o="382" src_o="http://payload93.cargocollective.com/1/3/125421/4163643/DSC_0190__o.jpg" data-mid="21893421" border="0" align="left"/>

<img src="http://payload93.cargocollective.com/1/3/125421/4163643/DSC_0273_.jpg" width="575" height="382" width_o="575" height_o="382" src_o="http://payload93.cargocollective.com/1/3/125421/4163643/DSC_0273__o.jpg" data-mid="21893448" border="0" align="left"/>

Special thanks to Kashi Atlanta for letting us in even though they were closed in order to get a candle for the warming, so very kind! And to the sweetest hosts and new friends Charlie & Jamie, we are all so happy to now know you!! Thank you for bringing us to the most amazing spots around town, had the best time at Radial, Sister Louisa’s Church of the Living Room, & Daddy D’z bbq – we all fell in love with Atlanta.

As we left the installation and walked over to Sister Luisa's Church of the Ping Pong Living room, Nikki said 'All is right with the world.' And I think that's exactly why we do this each year. Feelings of peace, wholeness, joy & goodness fill us and replace the weight from the stress of the world.

<img src="http://payload93.cargocollective.com/1/3/125421/4163643/gandhijump_.jpg" width="575" height="359" width_o="575" height_o="359" src_o="http://payload93.cargocollective.com/1/3/125421/4163643/gandhijump__o.jpg" data-mid="21893479" border="0" align="left"/>

We traveled in from Richmond, VA and New Orleans, LA and those that couldn’t make the trip this year we missed you! Team gandhiwarmer is made up of the fabulous K1-D2 and myself & is a collaboration of lots of warmth, scarf sections for Gandhi, Gandhi’s hat, gift hats & scarves, and knit flowers from members in RVA, Portland, Philly, and the Virgin Islands.

One of the many treats about gandhiwarmer is seeing who takes your gifted scarf. The young lady below was very pleased to receive the white one that I made : )

This summer, I was honored to be selected to be a part of the Neighborland + GOOD Ideas for Cities Initiative & part of the Better/Safer Biking Team! Each team received $500 & a few weeks to spend on their group’s project which started from Neighborland posts on city needs.

Our Better Biking project resulted in the Broad to Bayou Bikeway & the textable bike to bus directions app & website bikebusnola.com! See our presentation video at NOMA here on GOOD.. don’t worry it’s not too long.

<img src="http://payload93.cargocollective.com/1/3/125421/4163369/IMG_9131__650.jpg" width="650" height="975" width_o="720" height_o="1080" src_o="http://payload93.cargocollective.com/1/3/125421/4163369/IMG_9131__o.jpg" data-mid="21891244" border="0" align="left"/>

More about our process on guerilla signage & bike to bus app: To begin we created a survey of ‘hotspots’ for people to name the troublespots found on their travels through the city. With these results we then visited each site to see how we might help. Many of the trouble points or ‘hotspots’ were at sketchy or stressful intersections. We also found that better signage to help cyclists avoid stressful streets all together would be a big help safety-wise.

This led to thinking of bikeways throughout the city. These bikeways could be better highlighted, promoted, and developed. We re-named the Jeff Davis Parkway ‘Broad to Bayou’ to better illustrate which parts of town this bikeway can transport you to. Traveling again to the ‘hotspots’ we listed the signage needed & were lucky to find **Artvertising on Magazine could make our signs beautifully, on reflective aluminum to boot! they are such a delight to work with! Thank you so much Artvertising!!

The bike to bus app/website helps everyone achieve cross-town destinations more quickly. Lucky to have Joel Carranza [app developer & web-guru] on our team, he was able to use the recently released RTA data for bus info! If streetcars could add bike racks [especially from mid-city] this could also be added to this new transport web. The app is not only for smartphone use, as it texts you the directions, making it accessible for more people.

Big thanks to GOOD & Neighborland for making this happen, absolutely happy to be a part of! See a full list of projects here. Also, one of my fave signs below, this was later voted to be changed to ‘stressy route’ to be a little friendlier to younger folks..

And hey! We got tagged, we are legit! I was imagining how these would wear as we installed the signs : )
